Growth Conditions: Duration: in vivo, mouse Protocol: ATCCNO: 40615 SPEC: Thaw the frozen ampule using normal protocol and divide into 6 equal aliquots. Inject each aliquot subcutaneously into a 6- to 9-week-old mouse. For use as a vaccine, for the infection of cats, and for storage in animals, Toxoplasma must be inoculated into mice that are treated with sodium sulfadiazine, 15 milligrams per 100 ml of drinking water. This will permit the development of chronic infection and the production of bradyzoites necessary to infect and immunize cats. This strain should not be maintained in cell culture because the formation of bradyzoites will be impaired after 10 to 20 passages and may disappear after 30 passages.
Permits/Forms: In addition to the MTA mentioned above, other ATCC and/or regulatory permits may be required for the transfer of this ATCC material.
