ATCC? Number:50561?
Organism: Cafeteria roenbergensis Fenchel and Patterson
Isolation: contaminant in CCAP 950/1 culture of Rhizochromulina marina, 1987
Depositors: CJ O'Kelly
Biosafety Level:1
Shipped: frozen
Growth Conditions: ATCCmedium 1525: Seawater 802 mediumTemperature: 25.0°C Protocol: ATCCNO: 50561 SPEC: This strain is routinely shipped as a frozen stabilate. Thaw the ampule and aseptically transfer the material to 10 ml of bacterized ATCCmedium 1525 in a T-25 tissue culture flask. DO NOT distribute the thawed material to a larger volume of medium. It is essential to first establish the culture in a small volume. Screw cap on tightly and incubate horizontally at 25C. The culture should be ready to subculture in 5-7 days. To subculture, vigorously agitate the flask and aseptically transfer a 0.1 ml aliquot to 10 ml of bacterized ATCCmedium 1525 containing a single rice grain and incubate as above. ATCCmedium 1525 is bacterized by inoculating the medium with a loopful of Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae ATCC27889 (a non-pathogenic strain) from an ATCCmedium 3 slant approximately 24 hours before using. Other strains of Klebsiella or other species of bacteria may serve equally well as a food source. This must be determined empirically.
Permits/Forms: In addition to the MTA mentioned above, other ATCC and/or regulatory permits may be required for the transfer of this ATCC material. Anyone purchasing ATCC material is ultimately responsible for obtaining the permits. Please click here for information regarding the specific requirements for shipment to your location.
