Comments : VR-1587 was derived at the ATCCfrom VR-526 by adaptation to growth in Vero cells (ATCCCCL-81). VR-526, deposited by L. E. Carmichael, was originally isolated from the brain of a dog with clinical distemper in September, 1950.This virus produces neurological signs with regularity only when inoculated intracerebrally. It does not produce hemagglutinin or hemolysin. It is used primarily as a challenge strain to test dogs for immunity to the disease. Cross-immunity tests in dogs have shown this strain to be similar to other classical strains of CDV.
