Host Organism : CV-1 cells (ATCCCCL-70); rhesus monkey (in vivo) Primary cercopithecus monkey kidney cells in tissue culture; primary cynomolgus monkey kidney cells in tissue culture; rhesus monkey kidney cells in tissue culture
Incubation : Duration: 18 days at 35C (in vitro)
Effect : Yes, in vivo effects: causes tumor (Histiocytoma) in vivo, and microfoci at limiting dilution in CV-1 cells
Comments : Infected BS-C-1 cells (ATCCCCL-26) slowly develop cytoplasmic eosinophilic inclusions. Will not grow in Rhesus Kidney cells. Must by cultivated at 33-35C, will not grow at 37C. Has group antigen for Poxvirus, crosses slightly with vaccinia and monkeypox and is less stable. Does not hemagglutinate.
