Host Organism : rabbit, i. d. inoculation; primary rabbit kidney cells rabbit; chicken embryo (chorioallantoic membrane); rabbit embryo fibroblasts; rabbit kidney cells
Incubation : Duration: 3-4 days
Effect : Yes, tumorigenicity: causes tumors at the site of injection Yes, in vivo effects: death
Comments : This virus is highly virulent for domestic rabbits with a mean period of 11 days between i. d. inoculation of small doses of virus and death. This strain was taken to Switzerland by G. Bouvier, and was used by A. Delillie in June, 1952 to initiate European outbreaks of myxomatosis. GENBANK U46578, Myxoma virus MA51 (MA51) gene, partial cds; alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase (MST3N) gene, complete cds; and MA52 (MA52) gene, partial cds. GENBANK AF170726, Myxoma virus strain Lausanne, complete genome. Infections by this strain are more florid and proliferative than are infections produced by high passage laboratory strains. Secondary lesions occur on the body, legs and feet. ATCChas been unable to propagate VR-115 in continuous rabbit lines.
