Comments : This conditional lethal mutant, originally designated plaque isolate number 9231, was isolated from the IHD-W strain of Vaccinia by S. Dales, selected after mutagenesis with nitrosoguanidine and replication in the presence of bromodeoxyuridine. It was assigned to Dales EM category C, indicating that it induces rudimentary virus membranes with spicules in foci of viroplasm in infected cells. The mutation was assigned by complementation analysis (Lackner, et al, 2003) to vaccinia map location G(6-8) (precise location unknown). The non-permissive incubation temperature is 39.5oC. Vaccination is recommended for laboratory staff manipulating vaccinia, monkeypox, and cowpox viruses.
