銅綠假單胞菌是一種常見的條件致病菌，屬于非發(fā)酵革蘭氏陰性桿菌。菌體細(xì)長且長短不一，有時呈球桿狀或線狀，成對或短鏈狀排列。菌體的一端有單鞭毛，在暗視野顯微鏡或相差顯微鏡下觀察可見細(xì)菌運動活潑。
銅綠假單胞菌為專性需氧菌，最適生長溫度為25~30℃，特別是該菌在4℃不生長而在42℃可以生長的特點可用以鑒別。在普通培養(yǎng)基上可以生存并能產(chǎn)生水溶性的色素，如綠膿素(pyocynin)與帶熒光的水溶性熒光素(pyoverdin)等。在血平板上會有透明溶血環(huán)。
該菌含有O抗原(菌體抗原)以及H抗原(鞭毛抗原)。O抗原包含兩種成分：一種是其外膜蛋白，為保護性抗原；另一種是脂多糖，有特異性。O抗原可用以分型。
